MHJ Holdings PTY LTD, established in 1968 by Mrs. Mallika Hemachandra in Horton Place, Colombo, has earned a reputation for its stunning and timeless jewellery pieces. Mrs. Hemachandra's passion and dedication quickly gained recognition, and the brand became renowned for its unique and innovative designs. In 1976, her exceptional craftsmanship was showcased at the Non-Aligned Summit in Sri Lanka, attended by Queen Elizabeth II, who was captivated by the exquisite jewellery. This recognition solidified the brand's global prestige.
In 1978, a partnership with Mr. Yakoob Al Harmer led to the opening of JOYAU in Bahrain, blending traditional and contemporary styles and attracting a loyal clientele. Mrs. Hemachandra's leadership was further recognized in 1989 when she became the first female president of Sri Lanka's Jewellery Manufacturing and Exporters Association. Her inspiring journey has motivated many young women to pursue careers in the industry.
In 2000, she received the Entrepreneur of the Year award from the Chamber of Commerce Sri Lanka, highlighting her dedication and entrepreneurial spirit. The brand's creativity was honored in 2010 with the "Best Creative Jewellery Product of the Year" award at the Asian Mass Media Awards Ceremony.
